This past Sunday Chris and I finished our chores and were able to run west of Charlottesville about 15 minutes to check out Pollak Winery which is just off exit 107 Crozet. (Take a left onto 250 and 3 miles down turn right on Brooksfield Road, then right on Newtown Road and it’s just up the road on your left).
I hope the owners forgive these amateur photos as the winery is just gorgeous and comfortable, but more importantly, the wines are luscious! We liked them all from the Pinot Gris and the Chardonnay to the full flavored reds like Cabernet Franc, Meritage and Petit Verdot! Yum!
The views are wonderful and I can’t wait until they get the furniture for the terrace outside the tasting room. We have been serving our wine tours their cheese plates just outside the tasting room where they enjoy a glass of wine and the view of the pond, trees and vineyard. It’s such a peaceful layout, and for some reason makes me think if Italy.
I’ve only met Nick in the tasting room so far, but he is very knowledgeable about the wines and obviously works in the cellar as well as up front.
The winemaker said hello when we were there last as well. It’s a very friendly place.
We strongly recommend you make this stop while tasting in the Crozet area. This makes for a very nice loop – King Family, Pollak, Cardinal Point, Afton Mountain. Taste at Veritas at the end as it can take some time to get through the tasting. And don’t forget to stop at Greenwood Country Store for your picnic! It’s on your left when traveling from King Family to Pollak Winery.
